Carmen Violeta Colmenares

Groton - Carmen Violeta Colmenares Iturrino, 74, of Groton passed away Jan. 26, 2026, surrounded by family at Yale New Haven Hospital.
She was born May 19, 1951, in Añasco, PR., daughter of predeceased Ciprian Iturrino Beltran and Dorotea Iturrino Rodriguez. She is survived by her husband Francisco "Frank" Colmenares; children, Frank Colmenares, Richard and Minerva Colmenares, Daniel and Nicole Colmenares, Alberto and Ashley Colmenares; grandchildren, Frank Jr., Edgardo, Amanda, Richard Jr., Alexis, Daniel Jr., Nicola and Arjay; great-grandchildren, Leo and Arjay Jr.; her siblings, Esther Ballester, Luis, Miguel, David, Wilfredo, Reinaldo and Eliezer Iturrino Rodriguez. She was predeceased by Felicita Rios Iturrino, Maria Sanchez Iturrino, Ana Feliciano Iturrino, Roberto and Jesus Iturrino Rodriguez.
Carmen was employed as a CNA for many years. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, swimming, gardening, outings with her husband and cherished her conversations with her best friend and sister-in-law Maritza Iturrino. Her affectionate smile touched so many. She will truly be missed by her family, friends, and the community.
Her family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London, followed by a prayer service. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery.
